Why We Don’t Offer NHS Dentistry

By Celia Burns on 3rd June 2025

The NHS plays a crucial role in making healthcare accessible to millions, and NHS dental professionals work incredibly hard under an extremely challenging system. Many of us at Nothing But The Tooth have worked within the NHS and we have huge respect for the clinicians delivering care within that framework.

However, the structure of NHS dentistry doesn’t always allow for the time, flexibility, and scope that we believe are essential for the kind of dental care we want to provide. At Nothing But The Tooth, our mission is to ensure all our patients receive outstanding, personalised care in an environment where time, attention to detail, and your individual needs come first.

Therefore, as part of that commitment, we’ve chosen to operate exclusively as a private dental practice. Here is why:

What Private Dentistry Allows Us to Do Differently

  • More Time for You: We can take the time to understand your dental history, discuss your concerns, and explore options together, without the pressure of rushed appointments.
  • Tailored Treatments, Not Templates: Every treatment plan is built around you and not just what’s available within a set framework. Whether you’re here for a healthy mouth assessment, teeth whitening, clear aligners or full smile design, you’re at the centre of every decision.
  • Advanced Techniques and Technology: We invest in the latest equipment, such as the IntraOral Scanner, and the most up-to-date training for our staff, so that we can deliver care that is minimally invasive, more comfortable, and as efficient as possible.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Life is busy and your dental care should fit around it. Our private setup allows us to offer more appointment flexibility, including evenings and weekends.
  • Small is Beautiful: We are a small family run practice that can provide a personal service to every single patient. Our staff turnover is low and you will see the same clinicians and nurses time after time.

Choosing to be a private practice is ultimately about the quality of care we want to offer, and having the freedom to focus on what we believe matters most: your health, comfort, and confidence in your smile.

We understand that private dentistry isn’t the right choice for everyone but for those seeking a more personalised, in-depth, and flexible dental experience, we are here to offer something

My first love isn’t teeth; it’s people. That’s why I love being a dentist. It’s the best feeling in the world to be able to help an anxious patient, who has possibly avoided going to the dentist for many years, build their trust in me, and I get a real thrill from helping someone achieve the confidence in their smile that they want.
