Why Do Child Patients See Our Hygiene Therapists?
At Nothing But The Tooth, we believe that the best dentistry is preventive dentistry. All the care we provide is designed to help young patients develop healthy habits and enjoy strong, healthy smiles for life.
Prevention is Better Than Cure
The care we provide for little ones and young people is designed around one simple aim: preventing problems before they arise. Children who reach adulthood without having had any fillings are much less likely to need treatment in the future.
Our skilled and caring team of Dental Hygiene Therapists are clinicians whose qualifications and interest are focussed on maintaining healthy teeth and gums for both children and adults. They are highly skilled in monitoring oral health, providing personalised advice, applying fluoride treatments, carrying out professional cleaning, and completing thorough overall checks. For most children, these are exactly the things that matter most. Their appointments are unrushed, allowing younger patients time to settle and feel comfortable, whilst building a relationship with the person looking after them.
On the rare occasions that a child does need treatment, this can be provided safely and gently by the same therapist they have become used to seeing. This may include restoring teeth with fillings, taking out baby teeth or placing crowns where needed. While our approach is designed to reduce the likelihood of these treatments being required, parents can feel reassured that their children will receive consistent, familiar care with a clinician who is especially well suited to looking after younger patients.
Structured Care with our Mini Sparklers Membership
At Nothing But The Tooth, all children are seen through our Mini Sparklers Membership Club, which provides structured preventive care. We use a simple Red, Amber, Green system to guide the level and frequency of appointments, ensuring each child receives care appropriate to their oral health needs. Your child’s clinician will take time to assess their needs and recommend the most appropriate plan.
- Green Sparklers: Routine care for children with a low risk of dental problems.
- Amber Sparklers: Regular care and preventive support for children with moderate risk.
- Red Sparklers: More frequent care and close monitoring for children with higher risk factors.
What Happens at a Children’s Appointment?
A children’s appointment with one of our therapists is tailored entirely to your child’s individual needs. The time is used in whichever way the clinician feels will provide the most benefit. This always includes a thorough assessment of the health of their teeth and mouth, but can also include:
- Professional cleaning
- Fluoride treatments to help strengthen enamel
- Oral hygiene advice and brushing tips
- Support with healthy eating habits and reducing sugar intake
- Taking X-rays to provide a complete picture of oral health
- Taking a 3-D scan of their mouth
Our aim is always to make appointments as fun, relaxed, and positive as possible, helping children feel confident and comfortable at the dentist.
Setting Children Up for a Lifetime of Healthy Smiles

We are confident your children will come to look forward to their visits!
