Through the Lens: Our Favourite Photos!

World Photography Day – 19th August

A photograph captures much more than an image. It can take us back to a moment in time, remind us of someone we love, or preserve a moment of happiness that we might otherwise forget.

Today is World Photography Day, which celebrates the art, history and impact of photography, and the way photographs allow us to share stories and see the world through someone else’s eyes.

To mark the occasion, we asked Team NBTT to share one of their favourite photographs and the story behind it. From cherished family memories to unexpected adventures, here are some of the photographs that mean the most to our team… We hope you enjoy taking a look!

 

Blooming Memories

This is a photo I took of a passion flower that grows in my garden. It was grown from a cutting I took from my grandad, who has now passed away. So, whenever it flowers each year, it reminds me of him.

 

No Cars, No Cares! 

I took this photo in Gili Trawangan (Gili T), a tiny island off the coast of Bali in Indonesia. There are no cars on the island, so the only ways to get around are by bike or horse and cart.

The pace of life is so relaxed, and people spend their days swimming, cycling and eating at beachside cafés. I felt so happy and at peace there, and I think this photo captures that feeling.

 

An Unexpected Spectacle

My family and I love aircraft and air shows, from Spitfires at the Battle Proms to F35s flying low over our Yorkshire holiday cottage.

We have seen the Red Arrows many times, including on Coronation Day over The Mall, but this photo was taken at an air show we came across completely by accident.

We were visiting Falmouth in 2011 and found out that the Red Arrows were displaying that afternoon. It’s always a huge thrill to see such amazing flying, but it’s even better when it’s an unexpected treat!

Taking the Scenic Route

This photo was taken on one of our daily walks during lockdown. A little bit of beauty amongst all the uncertainty.

 

La Dolce Vita

This photo was taken while enjoying a quiet coffee in St Mark’s Square, Venice. It is special to me because it captures a simple moment of contentment and reflects where I am in life now: appreciating peace, slowing down and valuing the moments that truly matter.

First Patient and Forever Supporter

Two months without you, Dad. My first official patient when I graduated, and my biggest supporter from day one. I owe so much of who I am and all I’ve achieved to you. Forever grateful, forever missed.

 

A Heart of Sunshine

My favourite picture is this one of Isabella’s very first sunflower that she grew. After the bees started eating the pollen, they left behind a little heart shape!

A Smile Worth Stopping For

I took this photo of a Vietnamese lady I met when I got up very early one morning in Hoi An, just after sunrise, before the day became too hot. She was sitting on her doorstep selling her wares, and I loved how smiley she was.

 

Off the Grid, On the Road

This picture will always hold a special place in my heart. It takes me straight back to our road trip to Scotland, being completely off-grid from the world, exploring some incredible places and taking the time to stop, breathe and take in some truly breathtaking views.

It’s one of my happiest memories with my partner and, of course, our little Hector. Just one of those moments I’ll always look back on with a huge smile!
